George O'Connor (hurler)

George O'Connor (born 1959 in Piercestown, County Wexford) is a retired Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club St. Martin's and with the Wexford senior inter-county team from 1979 until 1996. O'Connor is regarded as one of Wexford's greatest-ever players.
==Early life==

George O’Connor was born in Piercestown, County Wexford in 1959. The second eldest in a sporting family of four boys, he has born into a hurling household. His father, Paddy O’Connor, was a star midfielder on the Wexford junior hurling team that captured the Leinster title in 1940, a launchpad for the future successes of the 1950s. O'Connor grew up on the family farm and in time would become a farmer himself.
